Lord Murugan - Arupadai Veedu

"Murugan" - my God and my best friend.
All begins with Him. So the best thing to start my blog is to put a write up about my God's abodes, related details and other helpful information.
Murugan is a Hindu God - son of Lord Shiva and Shakthi -younger sibling of Lord Vigneshwara
He is also know by other names like Subramanya, Karthikeya, Skanda, Velayuthan.
Murugan is a prominent diety in Hinduism and is more popular in South India. He is also referred as the Lord of the Mountainous regions, and many of His temples are situated in hilly areas. Among these, six holy abodes are known by the name "Arupadai Veedu";
Tiruthani
Palani
Thiruparangundram
Palamudhircholai
Tiruchendur
SwamiMalai
----------- ----------------
THIRUTHANI - TIRUTTANI
Google Maps Co-ordinates ==> (+13° 10' 19.01", +79° 36' 13.76")
Thiruthani is located in Tiruvallur district of Tamilnadu State, India; at a distance of about 85 kms from Chennai(capital of Tamilnadu).
Tiruthani is the place where Lord Murugan cooled his tempers after vanquishing the demon Soorapadman at Tiruchendur. Later on, after his wedding to Goddess Valli, came to this hillock and gave darshan in wedded form to His devotees. It is also known as Thanigai Malai (meaning: Hill of Peace), where devotee is blessed with a outlasting peace from all his miseries.
Facts/Legends about the temple :
- The stairs have 365 steps symbolising a year duration.
- Lord Rama, is said to have worshipped Lord Subramanya here, and obtained peace of mind after his victory over Ravana.
- Lord Brahma was imprisoned here for a short while by Lord Murugan on failure to explain the meaning of "Om" mantram.
How to reach there
From Chennai;
Bus - Direct buses to Tiruthani, operated by Tamilnadu government, are available at each hour from Chennai Moffusil Bus Terminus(CMBT), Koyambedu, Chennai. However, the bus comfort and ride quality is average.
Travel Time : 2 hours approx.
Via: Nemam, Tiruvallur
Alternative: Buses headed to Tirupathi which are routed through Tiruthani.
By Train - Local EMUs (i.e. Electric Trains) are available from Chennai Central-Moore Market Complex Station to Tiruthani, via Arakonam.
By Car - Choose the route through Poonamalle(SH50) - Nemam - Tiruvallur(NH 205) - Tiruthani
Travel Time : 1.5 hours
Note: Car can be driven up the hill and parked near to the temple premises on the hill-top.
Additional Info;
- The only good restaurant in this place is the "Saravana Bhavan", but its very average when compared to other "Saravana Bhavan"s seen in chennai.
-The cute and chubby temple elephant accepts (only) the temple prasadhams (vada, laddu, etc) sold at a counter opposite to the main entrance of the temple.
-If climbing by stairs, then choose an early time or by noon the steps become too hot to climb with bare feet.
Things I wish that changed:
- Comfortable buses instead of the rattlers with bench seats
- People climbing up the stairs with footwear.
- Garbage and food-particles shrewn in and around the temple premises
- Better restaurants
